Monsy Alvarado is reporting in the North Jersey Record a report released June 12, by the Pew Research Center, reported a strong drop in the number of Mexican-born people living undocumented in the United States. Mexicans without legal status no longer make up the majority of all people living undocumented, according to the study conducted by the non-partisan think tank. Pew looked at population figures from 2007 to 2017; in 2017, Mexicans accounted for 20 percent of those who entered the U.S. unauthorized, compared with 52 percent in 2007. "The number of Mexican unauthorized immigrants declined because more left the U.S. than arrived,'' the report states. The number of Mexican-born undocumented immigrants dropped by 2 million and was lower in 2017 than in any year since 2001, the report says. "This represents a decrease in the average annual inflow of Mexican unauthorized immigrants, from about 375,000 per year in 2002-2007 to about 90,000 per year for 2012-2017,'' Pew found. Read the story at LoHud [dot] com.
