Originally installed in July 2007, Sing Sun Room is an interactive sound sculpture and installation by artist Matt Bua. The project stems from an existing mobile home located on the Wave Farm property, creating a custom addition or outgrowth in the form of a customized gazebo. Sing Sun Room harnesses various elements (wind, water, and solar) in order to transform them into sound. With early electrical experiments as inspiration Bua employs devices such as a Voltaic Pile-Up; a bucket battery, more portable then the earth battery; a lemon-train organ (six note –polyphonic); attempts at Aeolian harps; Tesla radiant energy collection device; ode’s to Ben Franklin’s Armonica; EBow dissections; and many other surprises.
Sing Sun Room: Phase II
In June 2013, Bua transformed a section of the trailer attached to his Sing Sun Room structure. With the collaboration of Justin Downs, Tyson Hauf, and Japanther, a caved-in roof was cut away and an ergonomic wooden window-seat was built creating a pleasant space to sit, take shelter, and take in sounds. With Phase II Bua continues his artist project-at-large, exploratory architecture.
