Work 1: Maria Papadomanolaki, Scaffolding of the heart
Initially presented as a live performance in 2021, Scaffolding of the heart, explores a relationship of deconstruction; a preamble to loss. Taking as its starting point a text found in a diy-zine by a Greek queer performance artist, the work uses a series of field recordings collected from Papadomanolaki’s own home in Chania, Crete to explore the fading relationship between self and (M)other. As heard through the repetitive calls to Mother-Μητέρα, the latter’s presence acts as a vanishing point in the canvas of the work.

Work 2: again and again, That’s what the bucket is for
That’s what the bucket is for is the beginning of a radiophonic fiction by Glasgow based artists; Alison Scott, Becky Šik and Rosie Roberts. The work generates and dissolves an amorphous identity who sifts through data and is transfixed and subsumed by facts, stories and observations. The collaboration is informed by an improvisational ‘scrapbook’ approach to science fiction-making. A fragmentary narrative emerges from intuitive responses to both immediate environments and a rangey lot of matter the trio collected surrounding the theme of ‘orbits’. The result is a giddy selection of moving people, places and objects created through spinning, looping and reading in each other's presence, expressed through music, narration, field recordings, and transcription.
It seemed astonishing to them that the most enduring mysteries of modern times could be reduced to a recorded analysis of stolen paperwork. If they were trying to say - what goes around, comes around - I was trying to make it real.
Commissioned for Radiophrenia 2023 with the support of Creative Scotland.
This monthly program features highlights and commissions from Glasgow art radio station Radiophrenia.
Presented on an annual basis, Radiophrenia is a temporary art radio station – a two-week exploration into current trends in sound and transmission arts. Broadcasting live from Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, the station promotes radio as an art form, encouraging challenging and radical new approaches to the medium. Each year, the broadcast schedule includes a series of newly commissioned radio works, live shows, pre-recorded features and 12 Live-to-Air performances. The majority of the program is made up from selections submitted to an international open call for sound art and radio works. Radiophrenia is a radio art collective operating as a co-operative funded by Creative Scotland’s Open Project Funding with additional support from CCA Glasgow.
