Nuestra Música: Paises - Countries: Mexico-Dominican Republic

Nuestra Música: Paises - Countries: Mexico-Dominican Republic. M.V. (Oct 22, 2024)

Hosted by Mariano Vera.

Today we are presenting the10th part of Paises, Countries where we celebrate 2 countries in 2 separate segments of 30 minutes each. Today we are celebrating Mejico and Republica Dominicana.

Merengue is the essential rhythm of Dominican Music, and Bachata, a fusion of West Africa, European and Indigenous musical traditions and Salsa and Rock and Roll.

Mexico perhaps is one of the most musically diverse countries in the world. Each of its 31 states, its capital city and each of Mexico City's boroughs claim unique styles of music. The most representative genre is Mariachi music. Ranchera, Mexico's country music, differs from mariachi in that it is less technical, and its lyrics are not sung in prose. Other regional music includes Son Jarocho, Son Huasteco, Cumbia Sonidera, pop, rock en español, and canto nuevo.

“Nuestra Música,” “Our Music,” presents the rhythms and folklore of Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde. From Tango to Flamenco and all Latinx music in between. The show explores the native instruments, languages and traditions played in 22 countries and one territory. Other than Spanish and Portuguese, Nuestra Música presents songs in Quechua, Mapuche, Guaraní, Nahuatl, Gallego, Spanish Basque, and Catalán. Among many styles we present: Tango, Chacarera, Baguala, Zamba with a Z and Samba with and S, Bossa Nova, Cumbia, Llanero, Vallenato, Merengue, Parrandera, Son, Bolero, Ranchera, Corrido, Marimba, Fado, Flamenco, Sevillanas, Jota, Blues, Jazz, Danzon, Mambo and many more.
