Hosted by George Spencer.
Today George Spencer will be talking with Jessica Willis. She is a mixed, multimedia and installation artist as well as curator residing in the Hudson Valley in New York. Though she works in a variety of media and combines them unconventionally, a common thread in most of her work is the incorporation of encaustic painting on three-dimensional substrates. When working in individual media, her work in each medium, though part of distinct series, creates facets of a whole reality made up of surface, depth, and apparently inconsistent and incompatible elements. From representational work in paint, wood, or photography to the distorted or purely abstract she plumbs the relationships between media, subject, color, line, viewer, artist, self and other. A self-taught painter, her background includes diverse professional experiences from teaching pottery to high-end sales to management consulting as well as a stint in the non-profit world before committing herself full time to her life as an artist.
