Hunter passes laws regulating timber harvesting, small-scale mining

Greg Hudson reports in The Daily Mail that Town of Hunter officials voted Oct. 18 in favor of local laws regulating small-scale mining and timber harvesting. Several residents worried about over-regulation in the laws at public hearing in April, and a committee used that input in crafting the final version of the laws. "In terms of timber harvesting we took out a number of items, so when someone is cutting wood for their personal use or for their family — and they’re not doing it for commerce — there’s no regulation in terms of cutting a number of cords," Town Councilman Dave Kukle said.
