HDC looking for new board members

Feb 10, 2021 2:15 pm

Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Hudson Development Corporation is now accepting applications for new board members. The board seats are volunteer positions and successful candidates will either live or work in Hudson. Applications are due March 5. The term of current board member Carolyn Lawrence, owner of the Hudson B&B, will come to an end with the HDC board's March 23 meeting. The agency has term limits in place — members are not permitted to serve more than two, three-year terms. Executive Director Branda Maholtz said the board will likely fill two open board positions, thereby increasing the total number of members to 15, the maximum permitted. Mayor Kamal Johnson hopes younger people and people of color apply to fill the open positions. “I would just like to see some more diversity on the board,” he said. “Be that with ethnicity and age. I think we get a different perspective when the board actually reflects how the city looks.” The Hudson Development Corporation is a nonprofit local development corporation. Like other local development corporations, it was created for the benefit of the local government to promote economic development at the neighborhood level as well as the general revitalization of the city. The board is expecting to sell the Kaz warehouse site on Montgomery Street for $2 million, according to Robert Rasner, HDC board president. Rasner believes the board will sell the property this year, and will then focus on the city's economic development, which includes supporting local businesses and job training. The board application is available at Hudsonfirst [dot] com, the organization’s website. Note: Johnson is a WGXC on-air volunteer programmer. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
