County cited by DEC for leaky tank
Dec 05, 2012 6:00 am
Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star Columbia County was recently cited by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a leaking tank located on the 24-acre site of the former Ockawamick (AH-kah-wah-mik) School in Claverack. As a result of the action, the county must now monitor the tanks on an ongoing basis for an undetermined period of time, requiring an upgrade to the monitoring system. It is unclear how many fuel tanks are buried on the property. The county purchased Ockawamick in 2008, at the cost of $1.5 million. The building is currently used to store supplies.
