Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the $629,000 offer approved by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors last week to purchase a 15-acre parcel in Ghent to expand the protection zone for the Columbia County Airport runway, was far greater than the assessed value of the entire 96-acre Meadowgreens Golf Course. And the offer was $100,000 more than the market value of the entire golf course, according to county records. Columbia County Department of Public Works Commissioner David Robinson, who oversees the county’s management of the airport, said he expects the county to be reimbursed for 95 percent of the costs from the federal and state governments.
