Stanzione announces re-election bid

May 23, 2018 8:00 am
Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione announced May 22, he will seek a second term. Stanzione, a Republican, was elected in 2014 by defeating Democrat Paul Salvino. “The job of district attorney is not a 9-to-5 job — my staff and I work as many hours as it takes to get our job done,” Stanzione said in a statement. “This job requires a genuine commitment to the community.” Stanzione said he is running again because the job is challenging and, “...very rewarding being able to walk into a courtroom and fight for the victims of crime.” Among his accomplishments: prosecuting the crimes committed inside the state prisons in Coxsackie. “We’ve lived up to the commitment to prosecute crimes in the prisons,” Stanzione said. Combating Greene County’s opioid crisis by identifying and targeting drug dealers, and helping addicts into rehabilitation or alternatives to incarceration programs, will continue, he said. The Greene County Republican Committee will hold its annual designating meeting 7 p.m., May 31, at the county courthouse in Catskill. At that time, nominations will be heard for state Senate, state Assembly, district attorney, county treasurer and two coroner positions. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
