Newburgh asking NYS to fund lead testing

Jul 08, 2019 3:30 pm
MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey is calling on the state government to expand its funding to pay for blood testing that measures lead exposure. Since the city’s water supply was found to contain the toxins PFOS and PFOA, the state of New York has been providing and paying for blood testing for anyone who wants it. The mayor wants that testing to now include lead. “My office and the city manager are going to be speaking with the Department of Health at the state level in seeing if there can be some funds set aside where people can go and get tested very similarly to what they did for us with regard to the water contamination; set up specific locations and areas where people can go and [get] tested if it is of concern,” Harvey said.
