Common Council approves lower tax increase
Nov 25, 2014 7:15 am
John Mason is reporting in the Register Star the Hudson Common Council Mon., Nov. 24, adopted the city’s 2015 budget, approving a 1.5 percent tax levy increase. The council rejected the 2.97 percent increase proposal put forward by council President Don Moore and City Treasurer Heather Campbell. The greater increase would have added $70,000 more to the city’s new capital fund. Mayor William H. Hallenbeck Jr. advocated for the lower increase, arguing the additional sum was arbitrarily determined and would unnecessarily add to the taxpayers' burden. Spending under the adopted budget will total $9.9 million. Read the full story in the Register Star.
