Siri 'I'm getting pulled over' shortcut helps record police stops

Darcie Moran is reporting for the Detroit Free Press Siri can help iPhone users record police interactions. The add-on Apple Shortcut “I’m getting pulled over” was developed by Reddit user Robert Petersen during the 2018 release of iOS 12, which included a new "Shortcuts" app. The app, in general, is designed to streamline tasks and commands through Siri, the Apple Inc. virtual assistant that uses voice queries and a natural-language user interface to answer questions and perform various actions. Though some Shortcuts are already available for setup once the app has been downloaded, Petersen’s creation can be pulled off Reddit for use. Once engaged, the Shortcut pauses any music that may be playing, turns down brightness and volume, turns on Do Not Disturb, and sends a message and the user’s location to their contact of choice to let them know about the police stop. The Shortcut also opens the device’s front camera and starts a video recording. Once the recording is ended, it is sent to the designated contact and the user can choose to send it to iCloud Drive or Dropbox as well. “My only goal with the Police shortcut is trying to help people stay safe … and honest,” Petersen said.
