Navy vet completes cross-country walk
Aug 26, 2019 12:41 am
Mid-Hudson News reports that Navy veteran Tommy Zurhellen, an English professor at Marist College, returned to campus Aug. 23 after completing an awareness and fundraising walk across the country against veteran homelessness and suicides. His goal was to raise a dollar for each of the estimated 40,000 American homeless veterans, and he raised close to $50,000. He walked 22 miles each day, one mile for each of the 22 vets who commit suicide every day in America. “The basic question behind the project is can one person change the world; can one person do anything to make the world a better place,” Zurhellen said. “So, I used this summer, these four or five months, to do everything I could possibly, just leave it all in the field and just see how much could one person do.” Read more about this story at the Mid-Hudson News website.
