Germantown Dems allege GOP broke election law

Joe Gentile is reporting in the Register Star the Germantown Democratic Committee filed a formal complaint with the county and state boards of election, Wed., Sept. 25, alleging the Germantown GOP violated state election law in 2009 when it did not report a $1,550 contribution from its county committee. The complaint levels a variety of allegations against the Republicans, including a failure to lawfully register the committee and to file the requisite campaign financial disclosure statements. Columbia County Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner Virginia Martin said she fully intends to notify county Republican Commissioner Jason Nastke of the complaint. Kay Abraham, Democratic chair, has called for an immediate investigation into the matter so Germantown residents not “be left in the dark as to how the Germantown Republican Committee finances its campaigns.” Republican officials said the committee leadership and its attorneys are going through the Columbia County Republican Committee to “completely comply with the state Board of Elections."
