Cuomo discusses a study on legalized pot

Jon Campbell reports for USA Today Gov. Andrew Cuomo called on lawmakers to approve funding for a feasibility study about legalzing marijuana in New York in his budget address Jan. 16. "This is an important topic, it is a hotly debated topic — pardon the pun — and it would be nice to have some facts in the middle of the debate once in a while," Cuomo said. Marijuana use for medical purposes is allowed -- although on a very limited basis -- in New York, like in 28 other states. Eight states and the District of Columbia allow the recreational use of marijuana. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the State Senate, but Republicans have control of the chamber, and until that changes it is unlikely that recreational marijuana would be approved in New York.
