Durham takes first steps in comprehensive planning process

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a survey taken Sat., Sep. 16, found that Durham residents want abandoned properties cleaned up, the former Durham Elementary School building to be reopened or better utilized and to feel a greater sense of community. The survey was taken during a town meeting held at Durham Elementary School hosted by Legislator Aidan O'Connor. The conversation was focused on how to make Durham more productive and featured a panel of representatives from nonprofit organizations, churches, emergency services and local, county and state governments. The event drew more than 50 residents. The conversation was the first step in creating a comprehensive plan for Durham, and future meetings are expected before a subcommittee is formed and the planning process begins.
