Save-A-Lot closes Coxsackie distribution center
Andrea Macko reports in Porcupine Soup the Save-A-Lot distribution center in Coxsackie closes later this month, with 30 employees out of work. State Senator Michelle Hinchey and Columbia/Greene Workforce New York are setting up a job fair for the unemployed workers. The distribution center has been open since 2003 in the Greene Business & Technology Park along State Route 9W, and once employed 105 people. Save-A-Lot is transitioning from a discount grocery store chain to a wholesale supplier for independently owned stores. Greene County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director April Ernst said she has already received several inquiries about the space. “I’m not sure if they are going to lease it or sell it, but it’s not going to sit vacant very long,” she said. “In Greene County we don’t have a lot of empty warehouses, so when leads do come in this will be our only one.” Read the full story in Porcupine Soup.
