Catskill to hear the public on exemption
Greg Hudson is reporting in The Daily Mail Catskill school district administrators are moving forward with plans to initiate a veterans exemption on school taxes. At its meeting last month, the board of education voted to hold a public hearing in the fall. If the board approves the exemption, veterans with disabilities living within the Catskill Central School District would receive a reduction in school taxes based on assessed property values. “We made it over the first hurdle,” Iraq War veteran Jason Borgen, a 1997 graduate of Catskill schools said. Borgen and other veterans with disabilities would benefit from the savings in their taxes, and the exemptions would need to be offset by a tax rate adjustment for the rest of the district.
