American Legion under investigation in crash

Patricia Doxsey is reporting in the Daily Freeman the American Legion in Tivoli is being investigated for the role it might have played in the early 2014 crash that left two Bard College students dead and another injured, a sheriff’s captain said Tue., Apr. 14. According to a spokesman, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is working with the county District Attorney’s Office and the state Liquor Authority in an investigation into the circumstances prior to the fatal incident. That investigation is now focused on the Harris Smith American Legion Post in Tivoli. Carol Boeck, the driver in the incident, said she was drinking at the Legion in the hours before the crash. According to the state Liquor Authority, the American Legion does not have a license to sell alcohol. Authorities said Boeck had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the state threshold for driving while intoxicated. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
