Landslide closes Platte Clove Road for two days

Jim Planck is reporting in The Daily Mail a landslide on Platte Clove Road in Hunter this weekend dumped tons of earth, mud, trees and one enormous boulder onto the road. The slide did not cause any serious damage. During the winter, the rustic road is often used for regional bicycle tours because of its steep climb and length, a history that goes back to the 1990 Tour de Trump. When Route 23A is closed through Kaaterskill Clove, many people use it to reach Catskill and beyond. However, the 12 to 22 percent grade can prove troublesome with spring rains, and that was the case Sat., May 7. The Hunter Highway Department had the road passable by late Monday.
