Free fishing statewide next weekend
Jun 22, 2020 5:30 am
The Daily Freeman is reporting that the state Department of Environmental Conservation has announced that June 27 and 28 are free fishing days statewide in New York. On Saturday and Sunday next weekend, New York residents and non-residents can fish for free without a fishing license. All other DEC freshwater fishing regulations will remain in effect. “This free fishing weekend could not have come at a better time,” DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said. “Amid the uncertainty of these challenging times, being home together has allowed many families to get outdoors and experience new activities." Anglers are reminded to follow COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines. To avoid crowds and groups, stay six feet from others and, if on a boat, have enough space to keep six feet apart. The DEC also recommended anglers to stay close to home, avoid high-traffic destinations and to keep the trip short. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
