Traffic safety looms large in Hillsdale
Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting in The Columbia Paper Hillsdale Supervisor Peter Cipkowski announced this week the state Department of Transportation has rejected the town’s request for reduced speed limits on sections of state Route 22. The town had requested the speed limit be reduced on the state highway from Schutts Road to Old Town Road, and from Old Town Road to the Copake town line. A similar request to reduce speed limits on sections of county Route 21 is still pending with Columbia County. In another traffic safety issue, the town board was presented with a petition bearing 75 signatures requesting changes at the intersection of Route 22 and Whipoorwill Road. The location of a house near the intersection is the issue. A member of the audience suggested the town should purchase the property and tear down the house. Cipkowski rejected the idea, saying the board “is not interested in tearing down a house occupied by a family.” Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
