Increased police patrols expected this weekend

The Greene County Sheriff's Office announced Mon., Aug. 25, it will participate in a DWI Crackdown campaign during the upcoming Labor Day weekend. According to a statement released by the Sheriff's Office, drivers can expect to see a high volume of marked and unmarked patrol vehicles in locations throughout Greene County. The police departments in Athens, Cairo, Catskill, Hunter and Windham will join in the effort. Holiday weekends are known for increased vehicle traffic and patrols will be maximizing efforts to ensure the safety of all travelers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports drunk driving kills more than 10,000 people every year. The STOP-DWI campaign is supported by a grant from the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation.
