Ballot selfies still illegal in New York

The Daily News reports that voters still can't take ballot photos in the voting booth, a Manhattan federal judge ruled Sept. 28. Judge P. Kevin Castel tossed a lawsuit that wanted a state law banning images of marked ballots overturned. "Taking a photograph of a filled out ballot is a powerful political statement that demonstrates the importance of voting,” the plaintiffs argued in court papers. “Without the photograph, the message loses its power." Castel, though, wrote that the state, "convincingly demonstrated that secret ballots remain critical to combating vote buying and voter intimidation." Election day is November 7.
