Nancy Kern reports for Columbia-Greene Media that on Feb. 8 the Catskill school district approved a property tax exemption for volunteer fire fighters and volunteer ambulance workers. Greene County passed a similar tax break for first responders a few days before. The laws are meant to entice more first responders to the area. The law even says, "Firehouses are closing and ambulance companies are being folded into larger county-spanning units to cover labor gaps."
