Saugerties needs to repair sewer pipes

Kemble reports in The Daily Freeman that Saugerties needs to repair a half-mile of sewer lines along Main Street through the village business district, and officials there are deciding how they will proceed. At an Aug. 15 Village Board meeting, village wastewater Superintendent Alphonse Marino said the line's poor condition was evident during a recent break in front of Cahill Elementary School. “Once the line was exposed and cut, an attempt was made to insert our camera, knowing there was another break less than 100 feet from where we were located,” he said. “We went in about 20 to 30 feet and hit another crushed pipe area. The conclusion is that the 100-year-old line is falling apart and needs to be relined.” But the good news is, “There are options other than excavating,” he said, possibly inserting a plastic lining in the pipes. “It’s a preventative maintenance issue right now,” Marino said. “In time, it’s going to be worse and it might be a problem with leakage.
