Want to see the exact spot where Apollo 11 landed on the moon, or find the planets Venus, Jupiter and Mars? You can do that and more, but only if you attend Family Stargazing Night. Rain or snow date will be 6:30 p.m. on Sat., March 3. Guiding this introduction to the winter night sky will be award-winning writer John Farrell, author of "Stargazer’s Alphabet," an International Reading Association “Notable Book of the Year.” The program starts in Library with an audio visual presentation, songs and stories, and will then move outdoors if skies are clear. Warm clothing is advised. While not necessary, binoculars may be brought to the Library, but not telescopes. With Farrell’s help, stargazers will locate the six brightest objects in the night sky, identify major and minor planets, constellations and brightest stars, find the Sea of Serenity and Sea of Tranquility craters, and see where the astronauts made their moon landing. Farrell will autograph copies of his book, and hand out CDs of his songs about nature and animals. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will benefit Library.
