The Rhys Tivey Quintent presents a performance, in collaboration with visual artist Hap Tivey, of new music inspired by old time jazz. The focus will be on the music of Louis Armstrong's Hot Fives and Sevens, the original arrangements and experimental improvisations. The accompaynying video images will show the cultural/historical atmosphere that gave birth to the beginnings of jazz, as well as provide enchanting visual contrast to the music. Linking the sound of contemporary improvisors with images from the roots of their musical influence, Jazz Progressions will comment on the process of evolution in jazz. Suggested donation only.
