The Town of Catskill holds their monthly meeting. The public is encouraged to attend. WGXC is partnering with the Town of Catskill to present live audio streams of public meetings. Architect, activist, and farmer Tara Rodiguez Besosa's installation and resource center introduces the public to OtraCosa, an off-grid do-it-yourself queer homestead in the rural, mountainous community of San Salvador, Puerto Rico. For the past year, Besosa has been mapping and cataloging the species and food systems of OtraCosa, creating a decolonized, living manuscript of the different human and non-human exchanges that provide nourishment, healing, and life. Throughout the festival, Besosa will guide audiences through the installation and its manuscript, to explore the principles and practices of OtraCosa and those who steward its land.

Christopher Tignor, Earthen Sea, and Connor Armbruste perform at The Avalon Lounge in Catskill. WGXC will have a webcast of the entire show, and will air the show on 90.7-FM from 8-10 p.m.

Christopher Tignor is an NYC based composer, violinist, and software engineer. His emotionally charged scores and unique focus on live, performance-based electroacoustic practice has won acclaim within both the classical and experimental communities across 10 LPs on the Western Vinyl and New Albion record labels.

As part of the duo Disassembler, with This Will Destroy You's Chris King, Tignor released A Wave from a Shore (Western Vinyl) in March 2022, followed by US and UK touring, including performances at SXSW. As a composer Tignor has written and recorded work for ensembles including The Knights, A Far Cry string orchestra, and Brooklyn Rider string quartet, performing alongside them at premiere venues including Carnegie's Zankel Hall. As a string arranger he has worked with Helios, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, John Congleton, This Will Destroy You, Meshell Ndegeocello, and several other artists at the boundaries of popular music. https://christophertignor.bandcamp.com

Earthen Sea (Kranky) is the experimental ambient/techno solo project of Jacob Long, best known to indie rock fans as a member of the Dischord-signed post-hardcore group Black Eyes and the dubby, drum-heavy post-punk band Mi Ami. On his own, he crafts a compelling synthesis of shadowy rhythms and opaque atmospherics, drawing on the most potent qualities of melancholic ambient and dub techno similar to artists like Loscil, Deepchord, and the Sight Below. He began releasing Earthen Sea material during the early 2000s. Released on limited-edition cassettes and CD-Rs, some of his earliest material utilized violin, tape decks, and keyboards to create eerie soundscapes. https://earthensea.bandcamp.com/

Armbruster is an electric violinist and fiddle player from Troy, NY. Improvising over composed textures and simple repetitions, he imbues each performance with raw emotion while taking the listener on a journey accompanied by a visual score. His debut album with Dear Life Records, Masses, is a live exploration of a massive, empty church and a reflection on loss and renewal with references to neo-classical, ambient, and Irish folk music. https://armbruster.bandcamp.com

The National Theatre presents Arthur Miller’s classic parable of power and intolerance with Erin Doherty (The Crown) and Brendan Cowell (Yerma), in the tale of young women unable to slow the rising fear, vengeance, and retribution in their small village. Directed by Lyndsey Turner and captured live. “A gripping revival of Arthur Miller’s masterpiece,” (The Times).

First show at Nonchalant Gallery in Cairo, "Feeling of Falling" by Caleb Elsbree. Elsbree (b. 1989) lives and works in Greenville. Primarily engaging with the half awake- half asleep state known as threshold consciousness, “Feeling of Falling” employs imagery derived from closed eye visualization. Providing that an audience must look inward to confirm the accuracy of his renderings, Elsbree draws attention to a universal connection underlying our apparent isolation from one another.

Art Omi's Writers-in-Residence will share new and in-progress writing produced during their residences at Art Omi. They will present an uncommon variety of provocative, funny, innovative, and surprising literary voices from a range of traditions, all in one place. Open to the public.

The morning plant sale (8:30 a.m. to noon) will include annuals, perennials, and herbs as well as succulents and hanging baskets. All proceeds benefit the Temple Israel Cemetery Fund. A buffet luncheon and lecture on the violet industry in the Hudson Valley will follow with featured speaker Historian Steven Mann. Between 1890 and 1920, the Hudson Valley was home to more than 400 greenhouses filled with violets. A minimum of 5,000 stems were picked each day, bundled, and shipped to Boston, Philadelphia, and even Chicago. The proceeds from the event benefit Temple Israel. "Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story" is presented by UCRRA. Upstate Films puts on the 2014 documentary where filmmakers/food lovers Jen and Grant grapple with the issue of food waste — from farm, through retail, and back to their own fridge. "Just Eat It" brings farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations, and consumers to the table in a cinematic story that is equal parts education and entertainment. The event is open to the public.

A tour of the Hunter Synagogue led by historian Carol Slutzky-Tenerowicz. She tells the story of this beautiful building, built in the Queen Anne style, listed on the register of National Historic Places. A Jewish-American Heritage Month program. Registration required. An all-ages event to mark the unveiling of a collaborative sound map created by campers during the Soundwalking program offered by Beautiful Racket during Hudson Youth Center’s camp at Oakdale Lake. Attendees will follow trail signs into the woods to hear musical performances by campers and Beautiful Racket students and participate in plant walks by environmental educator Vanessa Baehr. Political consultant and author Kyle Spencer will talk politics, democracy-building, and getting out the vote in 2024 and beyond. Spencer is a former New York Times journalist, now political consultant, and author of the recently released "Raising Them Right - The Untold Story of America's Ultraconservative Youth Movement and Its Plot for Power," an account of the far right’s efforts to capture the youth vote.
