Art Omi presents an immersive installation by artist Portia Munson in the Newmark Gallery, on view from June 25 through September 25. For over two decades, Munson has teased out cultural codes latent in the mass-produced items that surround us. Her monochromatic installations underscore the pleasures of looking at a dizzying array of items that are at once seductive and utterly disposable. Munson’s work offers an incisive study of the desires and terrors lurking just under the surface of commodities.

Workers of Amazon will host an Amazon Prime Week Rally in support of the union drive at our local Amazon warehouse in Schodack, called ALB1 at Washington Park, Albany. What follows is from the flyer: "Amazon workers of ALB1 will be holding a rally to celebrate the start of our union campaign. Amazon has exploited us for far too long, and it's time we become organized to demand better pay, better benefits, and better working conditions. The only way we can pressure Amazon into treating us with respect is by uniting and forming a worker-led union! We are teaming up with our fellow Amazon coworkers in Staten Island who organized under the banner of the Amazon Labor Union. We also stand in solidarity with the dozens of Amazon warehouses across the country who are doing the same." Speakers include: Heather Goodall - ALB1 Campaign Manager; Kim Lane - ALB1; Brittany Bottomley - ALB1; Brett Daniels - JFK8; Kevin Hogan - ALB1; Christian Smalls - ALU President; Angelika Maldonado - JFK8, ALU VP; Connor Spence - JFK8, ALU Treasurer.

In the upstairs lounge; no cover, pass the hat. Bobby Previte pulls a monstrous sextet through some of the iconic music from the Hard Bop 60s, the Loft Jazz 70s, the Free Music 80s, the "Downtown" 90s, and beyond. Featuring an absolutely crushing band: John Esposito, piano, Keith Pray, saxophones, Joe Fieldler, trombone, Nick Edwards, bass, and Dylan Canterbury, trumpet. Every Sunday will be in an "open rehearsal" format, so from time to time you might hear them, start, stop, fix, edit, or do those things musicians do to "get ready" for you, the audience.

“Three Decembers” tells the story of aging Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her two adult children as they struggle to connect and heal old wounds while family secrets are revealed. This intimate, compelling drama takes place over two decades during the AIDS crisis, and has been hailed by critics as a modern masterpiece. The one act “Three Decembers” takes a deep look at the meaning of connection in the contemporary American family through the story of Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her children. Stage Director Beth Greenberg, renowned for her work at the New York City Opera, says of the opera: “Buried secrets…dark whispers…love, and devastating loss…all collide and burst forth in “Three Decembers.” With its skillful balance of drama and èlan, the work probes the fraught relationships between a successful actress-mother and her two children—a daughter coping with a failing marriage, and her young, gay son at the beginnings of the AIDS epidemic.” July 21, 7:30 p.m. and July 23, 1 p.m. performances. Music by Jake Heggie. Libretto by Gene Scheer. Based on an original play by Terrence McNally Commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera in 2008. Cast: Adriana Zabala (Madeline Mitchell), Monica Dewey (Beatrice), Theo Hoffman (Charlie).

Inhaled Yowls Machine is the name of a project and tape instrument which will be used for composing, recording, and broadcasting during the Wave Farm Residency by the artist duo Victoria Shen and Aaron Dilloway. The instrument consists of hacked 8-track tape players that function like a motorized Mellotron. This novel approach to tape manipulation presents the opportunity for multichannel sound collage and a unique sounding instrument. Dilloway/Shen will use recorded samples from the local radio as the chief material for the tape compositions.
