Wave Farm will welcome drop-in visitors from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday July 23 and noon - 4 p.m. Sunday July 24, 2022 in conjunction with UPSTATE ART WEEKEND. Guests are encouraged to time their visits with live performance from Wave Farm Artists-in-residence Aaron Dilloway and Victoria Shen, Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Founded in 2020 by Helen Toomer of STONELEAF RETREAT to celebrate the cultural vibrancy of Upstate New York, UPSTATE ART WEEKEND connects people and places, building a community that not only visits for the weekend, but explores the Hudson Valley throughout the year. Its third expanded edition, takes place from July 22-24, 2022, and incorporates 145+ participants in the Hudson Valley. This three-day self-directed, accessible event connects tourists and locals alike, with art and the outdoors, celebrating the cultural vibrancy of Upstate New York.
Acra campus on 29-acres featuring 12 site-specific Property Installations will be open on Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24 for guided tours.
On Saturday, July 23 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m. Aaron Dilloway and Victoria Shen will present Inhaled Yowls Machine, a project and tape instrument which will be used for composing, recording, and broadcasting during their Wave Farm Residency. The instrument will consist of hacked 8-track tape players that will function like a motorized Mellotron. This novel approach to tape manipulation presents the opportunity for multichannel sound collage and a unique sounding instrument. Dilloway/Shen will use recorded samples from the local radio as the chief material for the tape compositions. These compositions will be broadcast over local radio during the course of the residency and be presented in live performance with a quadraphonic sound configuration during Upstate Art Weekend.
