The City of Hudson Senior Center and the library host watercolor painting with local artist Gretchen Kelly. All ages welcome: children accompanied by parent, teens, adults, seniors. Beginner and intermediate painters paint from seasonal still lifes, objects, photos. Learn basic techniques or just hang out and paint with others. The April 20 watercolor class features April showers bringing May flowers, Easter bunnies, chicks, and colorful eggs. May18’s theme will be flowers and fruit still life, the May Pole imagery, Spring elements like birds, sprouts, and planting images. June 15 continues flower still life, and moves to Father’s Day cards, picnic imagery, bees, butterflies, and Flag Day. Each of these three workshops can add to developing regular attendees’ personal calendars featuring their watercolor painting. All materials will be provided. Registration is required. Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley has assembled a new volunteer team in Catskill to hold adult, English as another language classes at the Catskill Community Center. The classes will begin on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Catskill Community Center, , and will be held every Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. These classes are open to adults, 18 years of age or older, from any language background, regardless of proficiency level. To enroll in the class, simply show up at the Catskill Community Center at 6 p.m. on a day of class. The second largest incinerator company in the nation has proposed trucking tons of toxic incinerator ash to Smith Landing on Route 9W in Catskill. This event will provide information on the project, featuring a panel with former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Judith Enck, Paul Gallay with Hudson Riverkeeper, and geologist and Catskill resident David Walker.
