CROWNS, CAPITALS, & COLD ICE: A Race Talks® New Year Special

LIVE: Tuesday, January 20, 2026 | 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM EST / Tune in: 90.7-FM (Hudson Valley) | Stream Live: wgxc.org/listen

Kick off 2026 with a broadcast that bridges the gap between heritage and high-performance. This January, Race Talks® with Kimberly Erwin returns to the airwaves to prove that identity isn't just about how we are seen—it’s about how we show up.

From the legislative halls of Albany to the frozen rinks of the upcoming Olympics, we are unpacking the power of "The First" and the resilience of the "Crown."

The Spotlight: Nykesa Hilts & Crown Confidence

Joining the "Intercultural Classroom" this month is Nykesa Hilts, the visionary founder of Touch of Nykesa. Nykesa isn’t just talking about hair; she’s talking about power. The Mission: Learn how her "Crown Confidence" curriculum is revolutionizing self-love for youth across upstate New York.  The Insight: Hear Nykesa’s personal journey of turning health challenges and self-doubt into a movement that treats natural hair as essential wellness.

What’s on the Slate for January 20th?

The Mayoral Wave: We celebrate the historic leadership of Dr. Dorcey Applyrs (Albany’s first Black Mayor) and Sharon F. Owens (Syracuse, NY), exploring what it means to lead from the front.

The TALK Term: Intersectionality & AI   Kimberly dives into the digital frontier. How do we ensure AI recognizes the "Visual Identities" and natural hair of people of color with accuracy and respect?

Firsts on Ice: With the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics on the horizon, we honor the trailblazers breaking barriers on the ice, from Laila Edwards and Erin Jackson to the legendary Debi Thomas with notable Starr Andrews - a figure skater to watch at this year’s Nationals. (Back for a repeat is Alysa Liu who put her skates up 2 years ago!)

Production Uplift!

Production partner Garrett Roche (The Roche Solid Truth) joins the conversation to share his 2026 resolution for radical community connection.
