Maria Irene Fornes
Cuban-born Maria Irene Fornes (New York, NY) was one of America's most distinguished playwrights. The author of more than two dozen works for the stage, Fornes received six Obie awards in recognition of her sustained achievement in the theater. Hunger, her first radio work, was adapted by the author from a larger theater piece dealing with the same family in three different epochs.
