Today we feature the film "Bitter Seeds," which screened at the Carey Center for Global Good in Rensselaerville on Sat., Dec. 1. "Bitter Seeds" examines the causes of an epidemic of farmer suicides in India. The third film in a trilogy about globalization, filmmaker Micha X Peled investigates how the use of genetically modified cotton seeds has caused a fatal debt crisis in India. We'll hear a recording from Saturday's panel, moderated by Carol Ash, President of the Carey Center for Global Goods, in which she interviews Micha Peled and facilitates a discussion. Panelists were Carol Clement from Heather Ridge Farm in Potter Hollow, NY and George Weld, chef/owner of Egg Restaurant and Parish Hall in NYC. George is also the owner of Goatfell Farm in Oak Hill, NY. Recorded by Liz LoGiudice, a volunteer for WGXC. We’ll also talk to Harold Miller about last week’s labor unrest in New York City, when hundreds of workers at restaurants owned by McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell and others went on strike as part of the Fast Food Forward Campaign. Harold Miller is one of the chief organizers of the campaign with New York Communities for Change (NYCC). And we'll hear a live set from Electric Rubyfish, a band based out of Woodstock and Hudson.
