Today on the WGXC Afternoon Show we talk to Japanese percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani and Chicago saxaphonist Edward Wilkerson, Jr., performing live tonight at the screening of "Sanguivorous," the first silent Japanese vampire movie.Sanguivorous is written and directed by Japanese filmmaker Naoki Yoshimoto, and features the renowned dancer Ko Murobushi. The film is screening tonight -- bringing together experimental filmmaking, music, and fangs -- at Time & Space Limited in Hudson. We'll also talk to Chris Bowser, an environmental scientist and educator who manages the Hudson River Eel Project, a program of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson Estuary Program. The Hudson River Eel Project is a citizen science initiative in which teams of scientists, students, and over 200 community volunteers collect data on the American eel, a mysterious fish that migrates into the Hudson River from the Atlantic Ocean each spring. Data is being gathered at 12 stream locations along the Hudson River from Staten Island to New Baltimore; one site is at the Hannacroix Creek in Coeymans. We'll also broadcast a segment from "Everything is Eel," which was a special edition of the "Nothing Is Real Radio Hour" on free103point9's Transmission Arts programming. Co-producers Sam Sebren and Liz LoGiudice bring you a glimpse into the complex, mysterious world of the American eel in a sound collage that follows the eel's migration to the Hudson River. And we'll hear from percussionist Emilio Martins of Sao Paolo, Brazil and his band, performing tonight at Club Helsinki for "Brazil on the Hudson".
