Cuomo warns warm temperatures could cause flooding this week
Feb 03, 2019 12:04 am
Governor Andrew Cuomo warned New Yorkers Feb. 1 that warmer temperatures forecast beginning Feb. 4 may cause ice jam flooding. "Following a week of severe winter weather, temperatures are now expected to rise dramatically and create the potential for flooding, especially from ice jams," Cuomo said. "State agencies have already been in contact with local governments throughout the state to monitor flood prone areas and assist with any problems that may arise. That said, it is also critical for residents to stay informed, monitor the weather and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their families and their homes." Ice obstructions could cause flooding on small streams and rivers as temperatures warm this week above 40 degrees or higher. Rain showers and snow melt will add to the possibility of flooding.
