In show vote, Delgado votes for marijuana decriminalization
Dec 06, 2020 5:43 am
Congressperson Antonio Delgado voted Dec. 4 to "remove marijuana from the list of scheduled substances under the Controlled Substances Act and eliminate criminal penalties for an individual who manufactures, distributes, or possesses marijuana." Hudson Valley representatives Sean Maloney and Paul Tonko, both Democrats, also voted for the decriminalization bill, while Republican Elise Stefanik voted against. The bill passed 228-to-164, but was largely for show, as the U.S. Senate will not take it up. But the U.S. Senate makeup could change after the special elections in Georgia in early January, and Democrats have already begun touting decriminalization only being possible if the two Democrats win the Georgia elections for the U.S. Senate.
