Cairo-Durham working on teacher eval plan

Jamie L. Carlson-Garland reports in The Daily Mail Cairo-Durham is the latest area school district to tackle the subject of teacher evaluations. The process, known as the "Annual Professional Performance Review," must be formulated, negotiated and ratified by the local teachers' union before the plan is sent on to the state for approval. The Cairo-Durham plan must get a green light from the state Education Department by mid-January, or risk losing $400,000 in aid. State review takes approximately four to six weeks. According to Interim Superintendent Dr. Joel Pollak, among the first 100 plans submitted to the state, only 10 percent were approved. If rejected, the plan must be re-submitted.
