Dec 17, 2015 6:45 am

Melanie Lekocevic is reporting in The Daily Mail voters in the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District Tue., Dec. 15, rejected a proposed $17.9 million renovation project. The measure was defeated by 28 votes; more than 1,000 residents came out and cast a ballot. The next step for school officials is to review the exit survey conducted at the polls. “We will take a look at the exit surveys and see why people voted yes and why they voted no,” Superintendent Randall Squier said. Some of the concerns about the plan raised by the public before the vote included: Worries about the installation of synthetic turf at the athletic fields, the overall cost of the project and eligibility for state aid, the decision to leave air conditioning out of the plan and the wisdom of creating a joint middle and high school library. The board of education now has to decide if it will make an alternative proposal, which would require another vote. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
