Jim Planck is reporting in The Daily Mail the Greene County Industrial Development Agency has taken a one-year option on more than 61 acres of land in Leeds. IDA Executive Director Rene VanSchaack made the announcement at a meeting of the Catskill Town Board, Tue., Aug. 5. The main site is located on the south side of County Route 23B, west of the New York State Thruway. The property is listed on the tax maps as owned by members of the Carl, Knoll and Morton families. The IDA has been seeking property for a development project within the town of Catskill for at least a year, and with the construction of the Leeds-Jefferson Heights sewer project nearing reality that goal is now feasible, VanSchaack said. He said the next step is the State Environmental Quality Review process. The IDA is considering three or four options for the site. The first option is to “try to bring something that will support tourism,” such as “attractions, hospitality [venues], or high-end sites,” VanSchaack said. The second concept would focus on restaurants and special retail shopping. The third option could include a small distribution facility or business park. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
