The bigger project, via Taconic Energy, Inc., in Salt Point, will receive $500,000 from NYSERDA to develop a diesel additive that would increase fuel efficiency by reducing engine friction. The other $50,000 grant goes to the Lower Hudson-Long Island Resource Conservation and Development Council Inc. in Highland along with the New York Soil and Water Conservation District for a plan to transport energy-efficient truck trailers, carrying produce grown in upstate New York, on barges traveling the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. Taconic Energy was formed in September 2006 to "develop and commercialize" the reduction of fuel consumption and was formed by executives from the energy industry with experience from companies including Texaco, Chevron, BASF, Plug Power, and MTI. The company seems to be based in Saratoga.
