Jordan successfully dodges debate invites; won't face Nelson before election

Wendy Liberatore is reporting for the Times Union state Senator Daphne Jordan has neglected to respond to the League of Women Voters' request to participate in a forum with Patrick Nelson, her challenger in the November election. Charlotte Druschel, co-chair of the League’s Voter Services Committee who organizes the forums, said she did everything she could to schedule the Halfmoon Republican, who represents the 43rd district, to debate Nelson. “I started trying in August,” she wrote to the Times Union in an email. “I emailed (the same email used by Vote411 to which she responded), left several messages on the campaign phone and also tried to message through the campaign Facebook page. She never responded.” Jordan and Saratoga County Republican Chairman Carl Zeilman also failed to respond when contacted by the Times Union to ask why Jordan appeared to be ignoring the debate request. Nelson is now using Jordan's non-response in his campaign. “She is not willing to defend her record,” Nelson said. “She is the least productive senator in the history of the district. She has the least amount of (lead sponsorships) on bills passed.” The senator's website says that during her first and only term she successfully sponsored two bills: extending the bed tax in Hudson and authorizing Mechanicville to hire an attorney who resides outside of the city limits. Jordan previously worked for former state Senator Kathy Marchione, also from Halfmoon. Nelson is a Stillwater village trustee and a campaign consultant on state and national races including that of Bernie Sanders. Nelson said Jordan's disregard for the league's forums means she's not doing her job as a representative. "...It’s also disrespectful to the voters,” he said. Read the full story in the Times Union.
