Oct 20, 2015 5:43 am
Kate Seckinger is reporting in The Daily Mail Hunter-Tannersville superintendent of schools Patrick Darfler-Sweeney has announced he will retire at the end of the current school year. He announced the school board is in the early stages of looking for a replacement, and last week approved Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES District Superintendent Nicholas Savin as the search consultant for the process. Darfler-Sweeney's career in education has spanned 33 years, the last nine years were spent in the Hunter-Tannersville district. He hopes to go on and teach at the university level following retirement, teaching classes in teacher preparation or education administration. The superintendent intends to address various issues in Hunter-Tannersville before his departure, including transitioning with the Common Core curriculum. “I hope to get us through it and everything associated with Common Core much more smoothly,” he said. “Hopefully, we can do that in a way that makes sense for our students and our community.” During Darfler-Sweeney's tenure the small mountaintop district has won the Odyssey of the Mind World Championship, and in July, its middle/high school was named to the U.S. News and World Report’s list of the top 1,000 high schools in the country.
