Field tests help test developers improve future standardized tests for students in grades 3 through 12. As the Regents met, New York State United Teachers slammed the state Department of Education’s stance on mandating standardized field testing. “NYSUT has been clear that students should not be subjected to over-testing or burdened with field tests that are conducted for the main purpose of benefiting test makers,” the union said in a statement. The policy clarification before the Regents would make explicit the requirement that all schools administer field tests.
