Ulster considers opposing pipeline

William J. Kemble reports in The Daily Freeman local residents are asking the Ulster Town Board to formally oppose the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline. Rosendale, Kingston, Catskill, Ravena, and other towns along the proposed route from Albany to New Jersey have opposed the project. One pipeline would pump Bakken crude oil south, and the other would send refined materials north. Town Supervisor James Quigley said he would ask local firefighters about pipeline risks and what additional training would be required to protect local residents. “If and when it is demonstrated that the pipeline is going to adversely impact the citizens in the town, we will fight it. But we haven’t gotten to the part of having to focus on it because I believe it isn’t going to happen because the opposition has already beat them,” Quigley said.
