NY Senate passes broadband expansion bill

Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the New York State Senate Wed., June 12, passed a bill to encourage the expansion of broadband Internet access in rural areas, an initiative local leaders say is badly needed in Greene County. The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk, would promote broadband expansion by providing tax credits to residents and businesses for broadband deployment. In a statement released by her office, Tkaczyk called broadband "an absolutely crucial component of our modern-day business infrastructure.” Outside of the major population centers, much of Greene County must access the Internet using dial-up technology or is without access altogether, according to Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden.
