Hudson hires new engineers for haul road review; public meeting tonight

Apr 18, 2017 7:45 am

Rosa Acheson is reporting in the Register-Star the Hudson Planning Board has appointed David B. Clouser and Ryan Weitz of the Albany-based engineering firm Barton & Loguidice to review the A. Colarusso & Son haul road proposal. The appointment was made April 11. Colarusso is seeking permission to use a 2.6-mile-long road from its dock on the Hudson River to the company's quarry and plant by rerouting trucks that run through Greenport and Hudson. The proposal calls for improvements to an existing road, a portion of which is already in use. Clouser and Weitz have already submitted a 10-page letter to the Greenport Planning Board, the lead agency reviewing the project, listing items for consideration as part of the state environmental review. “They exceeded what I expected,” Hudson Planning Board Chairman Thomas DePietro said of the new engineers, who had three days to prepare for the meeting. “They did a fantastic job in a very short time," he said. Clouser and Weitz replaced Ray Jurkowski of Morris Associates, who recused himself in early March. Hudson and Greenport residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about the proposed haul road tonight (Tue., Apr. 18) beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of Columbia-Greene Community College. Colarusso owns and operates a sand and gravel mine, stone quarry and blacktop plant in Greenport and a deep-water commercial dock in Hudson. NOTE: DePietro is an active WGXC community programmer.
