Ryan Anglim is reporting in The Daily Mail a student in the Greenville Central School District has been diagnosed with the respiratory virus EV-D68. A letter was sent to students' homes by district officials Mon., Sept. 15. The letter stated the student is being cared for outside of school, and that district staff has contacted Greene County Public Health officials for direction on how to effectively disinfect surfaces within the school. The New York State Education Department issued a statement to superintendents Monday advising the virus has been confirmed in more than a dozen children statewide. The symptoms cause mild to severe respiratory illness along with mild symptoms of fever, runny nose, sneezing, coughing and muscle aches. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health advise to reduce the likelihood of transmission, individuals should avoid close contact with sick people; wash hands often; cover coughs and sneezes; avoid touching the face with unwashed hands; clean and disinfect surfaces; and, stay home when sick.
